🎯 B1 & BE – briefly explained

Category B vs. B1 – what is the difference?
The theory test is identical for B and B1. The difference lies in the vehicles:

  • B: passenger cars and light motor vehicles up to 3,500 kg total weight
  • B1: light four-wheeled motor vehicles (e.g. quads or small light cars) of lower weight

When do I need the BE (trailer)?
For trailers, category B is only sufficient up to certain weight and combination limits.
As soon as the vehicle/trailer combination exceeds them, category BE is required.
For BE there is no separate theory test – here the practical test is in the foreground.

👉 In e.driver you'll find additional lessons on driving with a trailer (BE) to prepare in a targeted way for the practice.
